Woodley Hills Elementary School Mentoring Program

Woodley Gents at Howard UniversityWoodley Hills Elementary School (WHMS) Mentoring program works to encourage, tutor, and mentor male students in all academic specialties. The program guides the youth in achieving their scholastic potential, and to be a positive role model. Academic assistance is provided, mentoring the students in preparation of pursuing their career goals.

The "Woodley Gents" meet on Tuesday afternoons from 3:30 4:45 PM in the library at Woodley Hills Elementary School located at 8718 Old Mount Vernon Road, Alexandria, Va. The mentoring program provides an effective after school environment which incorporates innovative strategies designed to increase the student's self-esteem and improve their academic performance, attendance, confidence, attitudes and relationships with peers and adults. WHMS has been part of our Guide Right program since 2007. Our aim is to continue to stay in touch with the young men to encourage them to participate in Jr. Kappa League and Kappa League. Sessions focus on the importance of respecting self and others, peer pressure, career professions, hygiene, current events, and practical day-to-day issues.
