Guide Right

Guide Right History

Diamonds in the Rough participantsKappa Alpha Psi's Guide Right national service program began under the guidance of Brother Leon W. Steward, a YMCA secretary, of the St. Louis Alumni Chapter. Brothers Steward and J. Jerome Peters studied the problem of continual need of financial assistance and guidance of active undergraduate chapters. Brother Stewards proposed solution was a program, designated Guide Right, of guidance that assisted high school seniors in the choice and pursuit of useful careers consistent with the Fraternity purpose. This program was immediately adopted at the local level to the extent of providing scholarship to needy and talented participants. The 12th Grand Chapter adopted Guide Right as the national service program of the Fraternity.

AF Guide Right Program "Providing Training for the Leaders of Tomorrow"

The Alexandria Fairfax (AF) Alumni Chapter Guide Right program provides excellent opportunities and social guidance for elementary and high school males. The AF Guide Right program is very active and consists of six programs (Kamp Kappa, Kappa League, Jr. Kappa League, Woodley Hills Gents, Jr. NSBE, and Lego Robotics (STEM). In addition, the AF Guide Right program includes an Anti-Gang Awareness component to provide awareness to all youth on pitfalls of gang involvement. The overall goal of the AF Guide Right program is to simply guide young men in the right direction by providing them with practical training opportunities and activities to foster positive character development.
