Program Overview
This ten-week program is designed to enlighten and stimulate the participants through hands on interaction with realistic flight simulators and exciting classroom instruction.
Session 1 - Introduction to Aerodynamics
Discover the basics of aerodynamics. In this module, students will explore the principles of airflow, lift, and drag; gaining essential insights into the interaction between air and objects in motion.
Session 2 - Aircraft Components
Delve into the essentials of aircraft components and basic instruments. In this module, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the key components and instruments crucial for flight.
Session 3 - Aircraft Types
Explore the diversity of aircraft types. Students will examine the distinct characteristics and functionalities of various aviation platforms and gain insights into the design, applications, and unique features of different aircraft types.
Session 4 - Landing Basics
Dive into the fundamentals of aircraft landing. This module covers key principles and techniques essential for safe and precise landings.
Session 5 - National Airspace System
Explore the intricacies of the National Airspace System (NAS). This module provides students with an introductory understanding of the frameworks that govern air traffic management in the United States.
Session 6 - Intro to Meteorology
Embark on a journey into meteorology. This module will provide students with basic knowledge on atmospheric processes, weather patterns, and aviation forecasting techniques.
Session 7 - Basic Communications
This module exposes students to the essential components of aviation communications. Students will be introduced to the foundational principles of effective and precise communication within the aviation environment.
Session 8 - Hazardous Weather
Navigate the challenges of aviation in hazardous weather. Students will learn how pilots assess and mitigate weather-related risks, studying the impact of adverse conditions on flight operations.
Session 9 - Understanding Weight & Balance

Session 10 - Aviation Physiology

The Alexandria-Fairfax(VA)Alumni Chapter Kappa Scholarship Endowment Fund was incorporated March 2, 1990. KSEF is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide financial assistance to deserving students through scholarships and other types of financial aid who might find it difficult to attend college otherwise.
